JOIN CLA'S NEW BOOK CLUB!

“Book Talk on the Dock” Where great reads meet even greater company!

Join us for a laid-back afternoon of book talk, laughter, and lake views! Whether you're a bookworm or just love a good story, this is the perfect chance to unwind, sip a drink and snack, and chat about our latest read—all while soaking in the Cobbossee waterfront and meeting other CLA members. Then, as the day unfolds, head over to Bailey Library in Winthrop to hear the author speak live about their book, diving into the inspirations and behind-the-scenes stories that brought it to life. No pressure, just great conversation and good vibes.

Book Club host Sarah McLellan will send out details a few weeks before for the group meets at her dock in Winthrop. In the meantime, we would love to get a sense of how people might participate. Please email Sarah at sjmcdann@gmail.com to let her know if you are interested in one or both books. You don’t need to commit at this time; we are just trying to gauge interest.

Enjoy the books and we hope to see you on the dock!

Wednesday, June 25th: "How to Read a Book" by Monica Wood

National Bestseller. "From the award-winning author of The One-in-a-Million Boy comes a heartfelt, uplifting novel about a chance encounter at a bookstore, exploring redemption, unlikely friendships, and the life-changing power of sharing stories." —Mariner Books

Wednesday, July 23rd: "Beep" by Bill Roorbach

“In the face of environmental calamity, Bill Roorbach's Beep melds hope, humor, a zoo-break and an outsider's perspective on humankind… Propulsive… with such winsome verve and exuberance… Roorbach fans will find much to love in this big-hearted, simian-centered highwire act… It’s [Beep’s] world now, we’re just living in it.”— Portland Press Herald

2025 BOAT-IN’S TO BE ANNOUNCED

Watch for an email announcing this seasons’s hosts and dates!

New to boat-ins? They are casual outdoor parties hosted by CLA members on Saturdays throughout the summer, from 5-7PM. (They are called "boat-ins" because guests used to arrive by boat... though now most come by car.) Members and their guests of all ages are welcome. Please BYOB and a dish to share if you can. No need to RSVP, just show up!

OUR WINTER “BOOT-IN” was a big hit!

Despite the cold, rainy weather, about 50 members of CLA gathered on March 31st at Absolem’s tasting room to celebrate the Vernal Equinox together. It was terrific reconnecting with old friends and making new ones.

Thank you to everyone who came out! And thank you to Absolem for having us!!
