CLA Lake Health Partners
Friends of the Cobbossee Watershed (Friends) looks after the plant life in 27 bodies of water in the entire Cobbossee Watershed. They are staffed by scientists and water biologists, and environmental student interns in the summer months. They work to survey, find, pull, and report all invasive growth across the entire watershed. They are funded by state and private grants, CLA, fees and donations.
Cobbossee Watershed District (CWD) covers the same Watershed territory as Friends: 27 bodies of water. Their focus is water quality and clarity. They work hard to remove or reroute toxic runoffs, and to prevent pollution from entering any of the Watershed's bodies of water. They are funded by the Maine legislature and grants.
The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is responsible for protecting and restoring Maine's natural resources and enforcing the state's environmental laws. Legislative mandate directs DEP to prevent, abate and control the pollution of the air, water and land. The charge is to preserve, improve and prevent diminution of the natural environment of the State.
Through science-based action, education and advocacy, Maine Lakes works to protect and preserve the values and benefits of Maine’s lakes, ponds, and watersheds for future generations. They’ve been doing this since their founding in 1970 as the Congress of Lake Associations.
Maine Lakes is Maine's only statewide membership organization devoted solely to lakes and ponds. With more-than-100 partner lake associations, they form a nucleus of lake conservation activity that strengthens the capacity of lake ecosystems to resist destabilizing threats.
